Hornby Island Blues Workshop

Gary Kendall is one of the great bass players. Born in Thunder Bay and making his home in Toronto since 1968, he has been a working musician for over forty years. A longtime member of Downchild, Gary has also helmed The Kendall Wall Blues Band with Cash Wall in the 1980’s and his own unit, The Gary Kendall Band, since 2004. Along the way Gary’s been recognized for his prowess, voted Bassist of The Year six times at The Maple Blues Awards, as well as receiving The Blues With A Feeling Award. Gary’s ongoing role as the musical director of The Maple Blues Awards has resulted in the creation of one of this country’s best bands, The Maple Blues Revue; three powerful vocalists fronting a multiple award winning squad of eight powerful players. When not performing with Downchild or The Gary Kendall Band, Gary can be found orchestrating tours for The Maple Blues Revue, collaborating with a number of independent blues promoters in event presentation, volunteering with The Toronto Blues Society’s Musicians Advisory committee or producing and/or playing on any one of countless recording projects. These many musical roles have earned him the friendship and respect of musicians everywhere and the ongoing praise of music lovers around the world.
