What our workshop students have been saying about Jack De Keyzer is that he is relentless in his pursuit of getting it right. He makes no secret of the fact that he believes in practise and when you hear him play or see him perform, you understand that his mastery of the guitar and stage is earned. The same holds true for his industry accolades, so his 2 X Juno and 7X Maple Blues awards (with more on the way) reinforce one thing: this award-winning artist, singer, song writer, producer and premier blues guitarist’s achievements came as the result of putting his talent to work.
There is a lot more to say about Jack De Keyzer even though a lot has been said. There are those lines from Bob Dylan that if Jack was from Chicago, New York or LA, he'd be famous, or Jeff Healey’s flat-out statement that Jack is the finest blues guitarist in Canada. But the stories that resonate with as much purpose as these accolades are those written about the details of Jack’s body of work: like Eric Thom from Blues Review saying “some players work hard at becoming better musicians, a precious few like Jack De Keyzer are utterly consumed by it.”
We are lucky and pleased to have Jack return to our camp as an instructor and really do hope that his penchant for the hard work necessary for music excellence becomes the mantra for those who take his classes.
