Little Miss Jolene Higgins captivates audiences with her original, gutsy, spirited country blues songs. Jolene was born in southern Alberta and raised in Independence, Kansas. Growing up playing piano, she now uses guitar and voice as her main instruments. These assets, combined with her theatre background, bring a refreshing sound and story to the stage. As a songwriter a wide range of artists from Memphis Minnie and Big Bill Broonzy to Joni Mitchell have influenced her style and interests. She has shared the stage with the likes of Big Dave McLean, Corb Lund, Suzie Vinnick and Tim Williams. Miss Higgins has built a strong national reputation, appearing in clubs and on festival stages. She performs traditional songs, as well as her original music that picks up on blues chops of the past, yet her delivery is very much her own expressive style. She has the ability to paint pictures with words and engage audiences with unabashed passion and presence. Nominated in 2008 for JUNO Blues Album of the Year, Jolene is currently nominated for two 2009 Maple Blues Awards, Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. Jolene Higgins is the real thing, a musician dedicated to creating music deeply rooted in the country blues style.
