Tuesday Minor: History of Piano Blues
This is primarily a listening class, although students can try out some of the songs if they wish. We will hear samples from some of the greats of blues piano, from the beginnings to the post-war era: Jimmy Blythe, Cow Cow Davenport, Montana Taylor, Meade Lux Lewis, Leroy Carr, Big Maceo, Little Brother Montgomery, Roosevelt Sykes, Memphis Slim, Sunnyland Slim, Mercy Dee Walton, Otis Spann and others. I will tell you a little about each musician and introduce you to some songs that have become blues standards.
