Hornby Island Blues Workshop

Tina Jones

Tina Jones' style allows for the traditions of soul and R&B masters to meld with the provocative and intuitive techniques of jazz and hip-hop. On stage and in the studio, she has the ability to execute breath taking vocal performances along with adept improvisational abilities on the trumpet, flugelhorn, and piano.  As a singer, Tina has been deeply influenced by the blues and R&B idiom and feels the importance of their historical value as a means for expression and passion. She learned advanced ear training and improvisation as a horn player while in a special career prep program in high school. She then moved on to Malaspina College to take the music program there in 1994. Tina didn't start singing until she was nineteen years old and went on the road with blues band Auntie Kate where she was a player in a horn section and a back up singer. Tina then went on to arrange horn parts and back up vocals on recordings for Auntie Kate and David Gogo. Whether touring Canada and the USA, fronting various ensembles, to solo and duo performances at festivals and concert venues, Tina’s dynamic shows continue to captivate live audiences of all ages.
