Thursday Minor: Writing Your Own Blues Song
Level: Intermediate

In this course we'll discuss some song-writing techniques, specifically applied to the piano, and try to come up with a piano blues song of our own. We will discuss various ways to bring in a song, various rhythmic devices such as stops and breakdowns, whether, where and how to place a "bridge" into our songs, and various ways of ending a song. We'll also think about some of the aspects of song-writing, such as cohesiveness, story-telling and mood. Putting it all together, we'll create a piano blues of our own, which we will perform at the final student concert. Students will need a keyboard. Although it isn't mandatory, it would be helpful for students of this course also to take the Major, "Blues Piano", and vice versa.
