Major: All the "Ins and Outs" of Blues Harmonica
We'll start with a brief history of the harmonica and will quickly learn how to play single notes and the major scale. We will then move on to "bending" notes, a technique that allows us to play flattened notes that are characteristic in blues music. We will explore different trills, tongue blocking, octaves. Special attention will be given to proper breathing in order to achieve a superior tone. We'll learn how a one note solo can work by changing the phrasing and attack. We will also learn to play in various "positions" which allows us to play in several keys on one harmonica. Students will be required to bring a 10 hole diatonic harmonica in the key of "C".
